Wisdom Teeth Removal & Extraction by Enhance Dental Centre, Kitsilano, Vancouver

Why Is Wisdom Teeth Removal Necessary?

Wisdom teeth are often recommended for removal to prevent a multitude of dental issues. If these teeth are extracted during the early to mid-teen years when they are smaller, the procedure is much easier.

Reasons for wisdom tooth removal include:

  • Shifting and crowding of Teeth: They can cause painful shifting and misalignment of other teeth.
  • Oral Hygiene Challenges: Wisdom teeth are very difficult to clean due to their position at the very back of your mouth, leading to cavities and decay on the wisdom teeth themselves as well as adjacent teeth.
  • Jaw Pain: Impaction or misalignment may result in jaw discomfort.
  • Sinus Problems: Upper wisdom teeth can cause sinus issues.
  • Prevent Future Problems: Many choose removal to avoid potential issues down the line.
  • Stem Cell Banking: Wisdom teeth can be a source of stem cells for potential future medical therapies.

Benefits of Wisdom Teeth Extraction

Cause Fewer Orthodontic Problems:

As wisdom teeth grow, they can crowd your other teeth and damage neighboring molars. If there’s not enough room, they may push other teeth out of alignment over time. By removing wisdom teeth, you reduce the risk of needing braces or costly surgery to correct misaligned teeth.

High Reduction of  Damage Neighboring Teeth:

Impacted wisdom teeth can press against adjacent teeth, weakening their roots and providing an entry point for bacteria to attack the enamel. This makes neighboring teeth more susceptible to cavities and bone loss. Erupted wisdom teeth are hard to clean, especially if they’re impacted. By removing them, you may avoid the need for costly root canals and fillings that will cause pain in the future.

Reduce the Risk of Disease and Inflammation:

Wisdom teeth are a common source of increased risk for cavities and gum disease. Impacted wisdom teeth often lead to inflammation of the gum tissue covering the tooth. If these infections spread beneath the gum, they can affect nerves or even enter the bloodstream, potentially leading to serious conditions like sepsis.

Lessen Orofacial Pain:

Removing wisdom teeth can alleviate discomfort such as pressure and sensitivity in your gums and teeth. This can improve your quality of life and reduce restrictions on what you can eat. Pressure from wisdom teeth can also lead to chronic headaches.

Prevent Cysts, Tumors, and Jaw Damage:

Impacted wisdom teeth can harbor bacteria, leading to the formation of cysts or tumors that infect the jawbone. This can cause severe pain in the jaw joint.

The Wisdom Teeth Removal Procedure

Your treatment begins with a thorough examination, including a Panoramic X-ray, to evaluate the position of your wisdom teeth. In some cases a Cone Beam CT Scan (CBCT) may be needed if your wisdom teeth are close or wrapped around jaw nerves. Our team will recommend the most appropriate treatment option and review each step with you. The procedure is effective and performed using local anesthesia or sedation to ensure your comfort.

We also offer conscious oral sedation for those patients that are particular anxious about dental procedures

During the Extraction:

  • We remove any gum tissue or bone obstructing the path to the wisdom tooth.
  • The tooth is carefully removed, and in some cases, it may be divided into smaller pieces to facilitate removal.
  • After the extraction, we may place sutures to aid healing and apply gauze to control bleeding.
  • If there is a large gap after extraction, a bone graft, or bone preservation procedure may be required. This is to make sure the adjacent tooth doesn’t fail in the future. Your Dentist will determine before extraction.

I can't say enough great things about Enhance Dental, Dr. Pazhoh, and his team! From the moment I walked in, I felt completely at ease. The office is warm and welcoming, always spotless, and even smells amazing; it’s the little details that make such a difference.

Dr. Pazhoh is hands down the best dentist I’ve ever had. It’s truly obvious that he cares about his patients, not just their teeth but their overall well-being. He always takes extra time to explain every step of my procedures, making sure I feel comfortable and informed, something I’ve never experienced at any other dental office. That level of care is rare and I appreciate it a lot!

The staff is equally incredible; they’re all very skilled, professional, and always friendly. It also feels like walking into a family business, the staff looks like they really like each other, and work very well together. I never feel rushed, and every visit is smooth and enjoyable. The team is always on time, clear and upfront about costs, with no hidden fees, and they encourage me to ask questions so I fully understand my insurance and how to maximize my hard-earned benefits.

The combination of Dr. Pazhoh’s expertise and the latest high-tech procedures and equipment means I didn’t have to be referred out for treatments that other dentists usually send you elsewhere for, which saved me so much time, money and hassle.

If you’re looking for a dental office where you’ll feel genuinely cared for, this is the place. I’m not trusting my care to anyone else!

I’ve been coming to this dentist for four years now and every time, I feel at ease and confident in my dental goals. This is coming from someone who hates the dentist. I won’t trust any other dentistry around.

Had a great experience here as a new patient. I went in for a routine checkup and cleaning and was treated like I’ve been a patient for years. My examination was done by Dr. Pazhoh, he took his time and completed the exam with great care. I didn’t have any major issues which was a relief 😅 they took a 3d scan of my teeth which showed that I primarily chew with one side of my mouth, I had somewhat felt this before but previously I was told that it’s not a big deal. Dr. Pazhoh offered some potential treatments for it which could also straighten one of my front teeth which has bothered me since I was a teenager (again I was previously told it’s not really worth fixing since it’s barely noticeable) The rest of the staff were very friendly as well. So glad to have found such an amazing clinic so close to my home 😁 thank you all

I came in to get bonding done on my two front teeth and it was a super great experience. I had another dentist I was going to for years and had a really bad experience so I decided to try Enhance and they went above and beyond my expectations! They were super professional and my bonding looks 100% natural. I’ll be coming here again for my cleanings! Lovely staff as well 🙂
